I saw it on VHS a...Thanks for the review of ISHTAR. I saw it on VHS a couple of years after it came out and thought it was very funny. I always thought the panning it got had more to do with expectations and how much it cost to make, which mattered to me not a bit. As you said, watching Hoffman and Beatty play the parts opposite what we expected was a lot of fun, and the whole thing was goofy enough for me to forgive some lapses,since it was clear we weren't supposed to take things too seriously. One thing that sticks in my mind is the soundtrack. The two of them are running across roofs, bad guys in hot pursuit, and the background music is a variation on that stupid song they kept singing in their shows.
